Origin and Meaning

New name element inspired by Nordic names ending in -vil/-vild, especially Alvild and Ingvild/Ingvil.

In those Old Norse names, the letter V belongs to the first element and the last element is HILD. It was early misinterpreted to be a name element of its own and associated with the Swedish/Danish/Norwegian vocabulary word vild = 'wild' (see also VILLI)
