Swedish name of unknown etymology [1] [2]
According to Roland Otterbjörk [1] the name is probably German because the first namesake, Stellan Otto von Mörner, came to Sweden in 1597 from Germany. On the other hand, the name is unknown in Germany, which makes a German origin very unlikely. [3]
Maybe there is a connection to the female name Stella? [3]
