Top 3

The most popular baby names in Sweden in 2020 were Alice (794 girls) and Noah (758 boys).

Alice has been a very popular name for quite a long time now. It entered the top 10 list back in 2005 and has been on the very top 9 times since.

Maja (670 girls) is on the second place. It has been a top 10 name for several years now, at the very top 3 times before. The top 3 name was Elsa. Last year it was on no 11.

Noah (758 boys) entered the top 10 list 4 years ago and 2020 is the first year it reached to the very top of the list.

William (742 boys) is on the second place. It has been a top 10 name for more than 20 years now. Hugo (712 boys) is no 3. In 2019 it was on no 6 and it has been among the top 10 most popular names for 15 years now.

New Names on the Top 10 List

Elsa, Freja and Selma are new names on the top 10 list of 2020. While Elsa and Freja have been there before, for Selma this is the first time in the top 10. Lilly, Vera and Ebba left the top 10 list.

There are no new male names in the top 10.

New Names on the Top 100 List

New female names are Ayla, Belle, Idun, Ilse and Zoe. The names that left the list are Bella, My, Victoria and Wilda.

New male names are Alvar, Björn, Jonathan, Otis, Svante and Ted which entered instead of Ibrahim, John, Kevin, Thor and Ville.

Highest Risers

Bonnie (191 girls) is the highest rising female name by 41 % compared to 2019. Björn (139 boys) is the highest riser among the male names, 93 % compared to 2019.

On the other hand there were some names that lost in popularity as well. The ones that fell deepest were Bianca among the female names (31 %) and Wilmer among the male names (24 %).
