Top 3

The most popular baby names in Norway in 2022 were Nora/Norah (359 girls) and a shared top 1 of Jakob/Jacob (414 boys) and Noah/Noa (414 boys).

Nora/Norah has been a top 10 name since 2000 and was no 1 in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2020 and 2021.

Emma (337 girls) is on the second place again. It has also been a very popular name for quite a long time now. It entered the top 10 list back in 2002 and has been on the very top 9 times since. No 3 Olivia (331 girls) entered the top 10 in 2015. Last year it was no 4.

Jakob/Jacob is on the very top of the list for the fourth time after 2017, 2019 and 2020. It entered the top 10 list in 2013.

Noah/Noa entered the top 10 list in 2016 and 2022 is the second year after 2021 we find it on the very top of the list.

Lucas/Lukas (405 boys) and Emil (405 boys) share the third place. They have been regular members of the top 10 for many years now.

New Names on the Top 10 List

Iben (no 8) entered the top 10 list for the first time. Sara/Sarah is back on no 10 after two years outside of the top 10. The names that left instead are Maja (no 11) and Ingrid (no 12).

Theodor is new among the boys on place 9 and Oskar/Oscar fell by 10 places down to no 12.

New Names on the Top 50 List

New female names are Luna (no 40), Josefine (no 47), Signe (no 48) and Ylva (also no 48). The names that left the list are Eline, Mille, Saga and Victoria.

The only new male name is Birk (no 37) which entered instead of Adrian.

Highest Risers

Hedvig is the highest rising female name by 15 places from no 38 to no 23. New entry Birk is the highest riser among the male names. It started its top 50 career with a huge step right up to no 37.

On the other hand there were some names that lost in popularity as well. The ones that fell deepest were Tuva among the female names, which fell by 15 ranks from no 29 to no 44 and Alexander among the male names. It fell from no 35 to no 48 (13 places).
