In June 2022, 12 names were submitted to the Icelandic naming committee for approval. All of them were approved:
Female Names
- Ísvöld: This new combination of IS and VALD meaning 'ice ruler' was approved.
- Ljósbera: This new combination of LJOS and BJÖRN meaning 'light bear' was approved.
- Marla: This short form of Marlene was approved.
- Náttrós: This combination of NATT and ROS meaning 'night rose' was approved to be used as a human given name. Previously it had already been used as a an Icelandic horse name.
- Vanadís: This Old Norse combination of VANA and DIS means 'goddess of the Vanir' and was another name for the Norse goddess Freyja. Previously it had already been used as a an Icelandic horse name and now it was approved to be used as a human given name as well.
Male Names
- Adil: This is both a Swedish younger form of the Ancient Norse name *Aþa-gíslaR and an Arabic name meaning 'just', 'fair'. Now it was approved to be used in Iceland as well.
- Alf: Previously, only the Icelandic form Álfur was allowed to use in Iceland. Now this international form was approved as well.
- Bliki: Bliki meaning 'drake', 'male duck' in Icelandic and was approved to be used as a human given name. Previously it had already been used as a an Icelandic horse name.
- Búálfur: This new combination of BO and ALF was approved.
- Buck: This English nickname 'male goat' was approved.
- Elias: Previously only the spelling Elías was allowed to use in Iceland. Now this international spelling was approved as well.
- Jósi: This Icelandic pet form of names beginning with Jós was approved to be used as a human given name. Previously it had already been used as a an Icelandic horse name.
