The most popular baby names in Finland in 2020 were Olivia (312 girls) and Leo (397 boys).

Olivia is on the top of the list for the first time. It entered the top 50 back in 2003 and has been in the top 10 for four years now.

Lilja (274 girls) is on the second place. It entered the top 50 in 2009 and has been a top 10 name four four years. Since 2015 in the top 10 and now no 3 is Eevi (272 girls).

Leo (397 boys) reached the Finnish top 10 in 2009 and 2021 is its fifth year at the very top after 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Eino (394 boys) has been among the top 10 names for 10 years now. The second place (same as in 2020) is its highest ranking so far. Oliver (371 boys) is on the third place again after 2019 and 2020, which is its highest ranking since it entered the Finnish top 10 back in 2011.

New Names on the Top 10 List

Venla is new on place no 5 and Emma is new on no 9. Pihla left the top 10 list and took a deep dive from no 4 to no 15. The other names which left (one more due to a joint 10th place last year) are Helmi, Ellen and Ella.

Joel (no 10) is new among the boys. It is its first time in the top 10. The name that left the top 10 instead is Leevi (no 14).

New Names on the Top 50 List

New female names are Frida (no 36), Hertta (no 38), Martta (no 49) and Neela (no 50). The names that left the list are Stella, Vilja, Ronja and Vanessa.

New male names are Eemeli (no 42), Iivo (no 46), Lucas (no 49) and Urho (no 50), which entered instead of Eemi, Lukas, Viljo and Akseli.

Highest Risers and Deepest Divers

Livia is the highest rising female name by 21 places, from no 45 up to no 24. Matias is the highest riser among the male names by 16 places, from no 48 up to no 32.

On the other hand there were some names that lost in popularity as well. The one that fell deepest was Viivi among the female names, which fell by 18 places in the ranking from no 28 to no 46. The deepest dive among the male names took Veeti, which fell by 15 places from no 31 to no 46.
