Top 3

The most popular baby names in Denmark in 2021 were Alma (482 girls) and Oscar (562 boys).

Alma has been a very popular name for quite a while now. Its rise in Denmark began in the late 1990s. It entered the top 10 list back in 2015, and 2020 was the first year at the very top where it ended up 2021 for the second time.

Ida (474 girls) is on the second place. It was the no 1 name in Denmark in 2017 and 2018, fell back to no 13 in 2019 and no 17 in 2020, only to have a surprising comeback in 2021. A regular top 10 name and now no 3 is Clara (437 girls). It entered the top 10 back in 2011 and only fell below no 10 once, in 2017.

Oscar (562 boys) has been among the top 10 names for 10 years now, climbing steadily higher and higher until it reached the very top for the first time now in 2021.

Karl (555 boys) entered the top 10 in 2015 and this second place is its highest ranking until now. William (520) entered the Danish top 10 back in 2007 and was no 1 nine times since then. 2021 it reached no 3.

New Names on the Top 10 List

Ida (no 2), Luna (no 8) and Nora (no 10) are new on the top 10 list. While for Luna and Nora 2021 is their first year in the top 10, Ida just took a short break of 2 years before entering back quite high up on the list again. The names that left the top 10 instead are Sofia and Karla which share no 11, Anna (no 13) and Ellie (no 14). More names left the top 10 than entering because in 2020 two names shared the no 10 rank.

August (no 6), Malthe (no 8) and Emil (no 10) are new among the boys. They all had been in the top 10 before. The names that left the top 10 instead are Lucas (no 11), Aksel (no 12) and Noah (no 13).

New Names on the Top 50 List

New female names are Vera (no 46) and Elina (no 49). The names that left the list are Alba and Sara.

New male names are Holger (no 46), Ebbe (no 47) and Lucas (no 49), which entered instead of Asger, Vilhelm and Bjørn.

Highest Risers and Deepest Divers

Ida is the highest rising female name, from no 17 up to no 2. Holger is the highest riser among the male names, from no 63 up to no 46.

On the other hand there were some names that lost in popularity as well. The one that fell deepest was Sara among the female names, which fell by 15 places in the ranking from no 47 to no 62. The deepest dive among the male names took Noah, which fell by 10 places from no 3 to no 13.
